What better to do while sitting in airports waiting for your next plane, write bike articles! Second episode of Rockgardn 2005...
2005: The year of the carbon knuckle glove. If you were at Interbike 2004, you saw a lot of clothing manufacturers introduce carbon knuckle gloves. (Whoever makes these knuckle plates must have had one hell of sale!) This isn't new technology, just another widgit borrowed from the moto world, except this time from the superbike part of that planet. Superbikes have been using carbon-protected gloves for some time now to save their hands from high-speed road rash.

The most common complaint about carbon knuckle gloves till this year has been the price. There were not very cheap for riding gloves. Who wants to pay a lot of money for riding gloves, anyhow? Rockgardn sought to introduce a glove that is of high quality but wouldn’t put a dent in your pocket book. The glove has not only carbon knuckle protection, but also carbon plates for your forefinger joints. One thing I like about the gloves is the mostly black color and dark materials. They are very low key and keep clean through mud and dirt. Another nice feature of the gloves is the use of real leather. Real leather surrounds your thumb, part of your palm, and holds the carbon plates in place. The fit is great and the gloves are very comfy. I even have used the gloves for several XC rides while I have been testing them. The palm is made of thin synthetic leather, giving the gloves a high tactile feel.
I did experience a problem with one of the gloves. After a lot of use, the synthetic leather in the palm of the hand started to tear apart leaving the backing of the material. Finally got to the point almost the entire palm was in pieces. This appeared to be a lemon glove made from bad material, as my left glove still looks brand new till this day. Customer service at Rockgardn is great, Mark hooked me up with a replacement glove no problem.
And the score... I give the Fate glove an 8 out of 10
