Rennen Single Speed Kit
Rennen, the company that brought us the innovative Rollenlager chain tensioner, has developed another single speed product to further fuel your 1x1 cravings. The Single Cog Spacer kit is designed to give a cleaner and more functional alternative to ghetto PVC spacers or stacks of multiple cassette spacers.
The kit is composed of three pieces including a nice aluminum lock ring. The two spacer pieces are each composed of two parts that are both threaded, allowing you to change the thickness of each spacer. This ability to change the thickness of the spacers permits fine tuning of your chainline. All three pieces of the spacer kit are 100% machined aluminum and anodized black with laser etched graphics.
Installation is smooth and simple as it should be - it’s a spacer kit. What I really liked about the installation was the ease of chainline setup. With one spacer and your cog installed, you can adjust the spacer's width with your fingers to get the cog lined up exactly with the front chainring. After that is done, you adjust the outer spacer to get the correct height and install the supplied lock ring. The kit leaves your hub with a very clean and visually appealing setup. One thing to note is the thicker your cog is, the less amount of adjustment you will have between the two spacers. Regardless, the Rennen kit works with cogs of varying thicknesses, a feat other spacers on the market can't match.
Performance of the product is great. It firmly holds the cog in place with no signs of loosening on the hub body. It is the final touch to your 1x1 setup. Like the Rollenlager, the Single Cog Spacer is straight forward, simple, and light - a good product straight off the drawing board.
The Single Cog Spacer score card: 10 out of 10. The product performs as designed and does the job well. Installation is a snap and super fast.
