UCI Points May Keep US Riders Out of WC's

December 16, 2006 (derailedonline.com) - UCI has changed the points requirements to compete in World Cup events for 2007. Now the requirements are 20 points in each discipline that the rider wants to compete in at a World Cup. Those points have to be accumulated after December 31, 2006. Therefore, for anyone to compete in a World Cup race for 2007 they will have to accrue 20 UCI points between December 31, 2006 and the first World Cup race. This new ruling may keep most competitors in the US from being able to compete in a World Cup due to the lack of events in the US that qualify for UCI points.
