Liberty University Plans Downhill Trails on Campus Property

LYNCHBURG, VA (derailedonline.com) - Lynchburg, VA is home to Liberty University. Liberty is a private college that was founded by televangelist Jerry Falwell, and hence is a strict religious college. Students at Liberty have dress codes, curfews, and strict rules against things like drinking, dancing, and R rated movies. However; the face of Liberty may soon change.

The chancellor for Liberty, and Jerry Falwell's son, has announced plans for using a 5,000 acre plot of land owned by the university, situated next to campus, to build a new outdoors park. This outdoors park will include hiking trails, a year-round ski slope with lift, mountain bike trails, and downhill trails. The outdoor park with be accessible to all students and the general public (for a fee). Plans are currently in place to begin installation of the ski lift this coming spring and building of the snow slope constructed of micro-filament fiber called Snowflex. Soon after the snow slope construction, the downhill trail construction will begin. The total elevation drop for the property is 500 feet. The college is hoping this will help with recruitment and boost their number from 10,000 students to 25,000 students.

Welcoming in downhill may bring a different element to the quiet, what some would term, southern baptist school. A sport that is definetly not as "clean" as the college. Will the college be shocked when riders start to roll in with what is customary with people in this sport; loud music, tatoos, the occastional Megadeth t-shirt, and long hair?
