BOSTON, Massachusetts (derailedonline.com) - The City of Boston has put in place a program to tackle the problems of bike thieves via mass alerting system that employs social networking sites such as Twitter. Boston is a major cycling community in the US with a very high percentage of cyclist among the population.
The Stolen Bike Alert program, run by City of Boston department Boston Bikes, sends an alert to police, local bike shops, hospitals, school security and subscribers when a stolen bike is reported. The alerts are sent via Twitter, Facebook or email, instantly raising awareness of the stolen bike.
