Chile Rocked By Earthquake
SANTIAGO, Chile (derailedonline.com) - At 4am today a earthquake rocked Chile registering 8.8 on the Richter scale. On the heels of the ever popular Valparaiso Cerro Abajo Urban Downhill Race in Chile and right before one of the National races, the earthquake has significantly damaged a lot of the infrastructure in Chile. Many racers are still in Chile awaiting to race the National race after the urban race. The race has been, of course, canceled.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Chile in this time of devastation. We wish all the best and that survivors are found quickly.
Amazingly they have restored a lot of the infrastructure to major cities. Power, phone, internet, and cell phones have been returned to operation. Damage is widespread and there are Tsunami warning as far Hawaii.
Fraser at Transcend has been in touch with some of the people on the ground since he recently got back home from Chile Valparaiso urban race. He's got a video recording of a Skype call to Fillip Polc and Chris Van Dine who are still there in country, stuck till the airport is restored to operation.
